What is ShoreTel?

A large and popular provider of on-premises, cloud, hybrid unified communications, and telephony in its day, ShoreTel became the business phone system brand of choice in the late 1990’s through the initial decades of the 21st century.

What Happened to ShoreTel?

You may know that ShoreTel began as the organization Shoreline Teleworks, founded by Edwin J. Basart and Mike Harrigan, who also co-founded Network Computing Devices. The company initially shipped products in 1998.

ShoreTel – Going Public

The company name changed to ShoreTel in 2004, and in 2007 ShoreTel became a public company. It offered updated and expanded product lines that supported different approaches to client work requirements, like Connect for cloud, onsite, and hybrid.

ShoreTel – The Way of Growth by Acquisitions

The company grew extensively through the acquisitions of Agito Networks (2010) and M5 Networks (2012). In 2013, Don Joos was named president and chief executive. ShoreTel acquired Corvisa (2016) and continued to grow its services and locations.

Who Bought ShoreTel?

In the end, Mitel Networks bought ShoreTel in 2017, maintaining many ShoreTel phone system products through 2020. However instead of ShoreTel, products generally have Mitel names.
